How to take best care of eyes



Your eyes are an important part of your health. Your eyes are your windows to the world, so it's important to take good care of them. Eyes and eyesight are really God-gifted. Try closing your eyes for half an hour or at least 10 minutes and you will realize the significance of eyes and vision. Like any other part of your body, eyes too require conscious efforts to protect them, which also help in improving your vision. There is a huge population of people in India who are suffering from severe Visual loss. Taking proactive and conscious efforts to take care of your eyes will surely benefit you in the long run. Here are some simple tips which you can follow, ensuring maximum protection and care for your eyes.


Eat right to protect your sight




You’ve heard carrots are good for your eyes. But eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, particularly dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, or collard greens is important for keeping your eyes healthy, too. Research has also shown there are eye health benefits from eating fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut.Eat lots of fruits and veggies! Carrots, loaded with beta carotene are especially helpful in maintaining healthy eyes.

Quit smoking

Tobacco smoking is directly linked to many adverse health effects, including age related macular degeneration (ARMD). Studies show that current smokers and ex-smokers are more likely to develop AMD than people who have never smoked. Smokers are also at increased risk for developing cataracts.

Tea Bags



Apply cooled tea bags over closed eyes. Don’t use herbal tea bags, because most aren’t as effective as the black tea bags.

Wear sunglasses


UV blocking sunglasses delay the development of cataracts since direct sunlight hastens their formation. Sunglasses prevent retinal damage; they also protect the delicate eyelid skin to prevent both wrinkles and skin cancer around the eye, and both cancerous and non-cancerous growths on the eye. Check for 100 percent UV protection: Make sure your sunglasses block 100 percent of UV-A rays and UV-B rays.

Maintain proper hygiene


Wash your hands properly before rubbing your eyes or even touching your eyes. Those who wear contact lens should strictly follow the hygiene instructions to avoid allergies and infections in eyes.

Adequate sleep


Night owls might not agree, but sure, they are risking their eye health while sitting late night. Like your body, eyes too require adequate sleep and rest at night, so that it can function properly without being puffy, red and tired.

Look Away From the Computer Screen


Move the screen so your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. That lets you look slightly down at the screen. Try to avoid glare from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed. Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your feet are flat on the floor. If your eyes are dry, blink more. Rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Get up at least every 2 hours and take a 15-minute break.

Visit an eye care practitioner regularly


These are trained professionals who specialize in looking after the health of your eyes. They can be ophthalmologists (eye doctors) or optometrists. To keep your eyes in good health, have your eyes checked regularly or when you are having problems with your vision.
